When the schoolies arrive the action is non-stop. And they were stacked up at the creek mouth on this outing.
This trip began early to fish a falling tide. It's a great opportunity when the early morning bite coincides with a falling tide. The weather was nice with a slight overcast to keep the sun's rays held off just enough to keep the temps down and the fish biting.
Trolling baits south to the creek mouth resulted in picking up a few fish here and there, but once I got to the mouth of the creek the water temps dropped a few degrees and the edges held balls of baitfish.
I ended up boating 55 fish ranging in size from sub-10 inch fish to 17 in fish. Trolling 2 rods ended up with multiple doubles so I dropped back to one rod and eventually just began casting baits to the school of fish.
Bait color didn't seem to matter much as they were eager to take white and yellow on 3/8 oz jig heads. The combination of these size jigs with the 4-inch swim baits is easily one of the best light tackle trolling combinations in the creek.
Any time your thumb ends up ragged out like this means a lot of fun.
Today's baits...
